UNDERSTANDING INSURANCE
DENTAL INSURANCE PLANS – As your health and well being are our primary concerns, our dental treatments are planned with your best interests in mind, not with those of your dental insurance. We try to work with your insurance plan to minimize out of pocket expenses, and may be able to direct your insurance plan as a patient courtesy. Please be aware that your insurance contract is between yourself and your insurer, and we cannot always communicate directly with your ensurer. We may require pre-payment of account and if so we will provide you with the appropriate forms for reimbursement, and will gladly submit them on your behalf.
We may be able to submit claims for direct payment to our office. In these cases we will work with your insurer for up to 60 days to collect payment. Any amounts unpaid after 60 days will be reallocated to patient account and all outstanding amounts are then due. We can then re-submit the claim for reimbursement to the patient.
There are many different insurance plans and variations in coverage, we try our best to know before we bill, but we are not responsible for any refusal of payment, any charges or treatments your insurance plan does not cover, or any differences in fees between our office rate and your insurer. Any difference is the patient’s responsibility and payable to the dental clinic. Plans may limit dental hygiene and check up frequency, some plans do not cover certain procedures (i.e. fluoride for adults), and some plans pay only the equivalent of amalgam (containing mercury) fillings on molar teeth.
Your plan may have limitations, but we are not always aware and ask you to please understand your coverage. To facilitate this, we are providing a form with common dental procedures and codes. We ask you to complete this Understanding Your Insurance form and forward the information to our office. Understanding your coverage benefits you, and helps us work with you in planning your treatment.
To help you further understand Dental Insurance plans and the contract between yourself and your insurance company, we have provided links to recent articles published by the British Columbia Dental Association. Dentist's treat you, not your dental plan helps explain how coverage works, and clarifies the responsibility of the dentist and the patient. The Dental Plan Co-Payment may help further understand how insurance plans structure their coverage. And as always, we welcome questions and will do our best to help find out the answers for you.
FINANCING AVAILABLE – Our office has teamed up with DentalcardTM, a division of Medicard, to provide financing for dental procedures. Procrastination is never a good treatment option, your dental condition rarely improves on its own. Because you should never have to wait for good health, short term financing may be a practical and affordable option. This simple process starts with filling out a short application form with Dentalcard and you can request financing for all or a portion of your treatment. Terms and rates vary, and financing is available for treatment costs ranging from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. For more information about financing options please contact our office.
