FILLING MATERIALS
Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 9:49AM Our office has made an informed decision to use only Composite Resin materials for dental fillings. We do not use Amalgam materials. Although in use for many years, Amalgam fillings are now rarely used in the Dental Industry. Traditionally they have been called 'Silver Fillings' but Amalgam filings actually have more 'mercury' in them than silver.

The benefits are more than aesthetic, the strength of an amalgam restoration may be weaker than that of a composite. Also there is the concern of using a material intra-orally which contains mercury.
We ask you to be aware our material choice. Not all insurance plans pay the full cost of composite fillings on molar (back) teeth. There are arguments for and against both materials, our research has indicated that the benefits of composites outweigh those of amalgam.
